COMPONENTS OF THE ADULT LEARNING PROGRAM

/  LITERACY TRAINING

01

Literacy training is the acquisition of reading, writing and mathematics skills. Our literacy classes offer training in French or English and mathematics from 1st through 9th grade.

METHOD OF TEACHING

Learning is done with a book system. The learner receives a book for each module, with a booklet containing exercices to review the content. Each module is then evaluated with a test. Once the test is passed with success, the learner can start the next book. Each person can do the learning at their own pace within their personalized schedule.

A teacher is available at all times in the classroom to provide explanations, clarifications and answers to the learners' questions.

Individual tutoring services are also available for those with learning disabilities.

02

/  GED

The GED (General Education Diploma) is the follow-up to the literacy training classes. GED certification is equivalent to a 12th grade in terms of requirement for a job or a college class.

The GED includes five subjects:

  • Language arts: reading

  • Language arts: writing

  • Mathematics

  • Social studies (canadian history, world history, economics, geography, civic and government instruction)

  • Sciences (physics, chemistry, life sciences, earth and space sciences)

03

/  DIGITAL LITERACY

We offer free digital literacy training to help learners acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to use digital technologies. These skills have become essential in a world more and more oriented towards technology.

The digital literacy program is adapted to the needs and knowledge of the person, and looks to develop aptitudes such as the ability to use a computer, a Web browser, an email account, search engines and software from the Microsoft Office Suite.

A mobile teacher specialized in digital literacy training goes from class to class and does the assessment of each lerner's interest and needs. She then offers computer training classes a few times per week.
